North Head Trail & Lighthouse
The hike will meet at the North Head Lighthouse parking lot in Cape Disappointment State Park. The one-way trail is considered moderate to difficult, with approximately 200 feet elevation gain and loss. The route is 3 miles, round-trip. Sturdy hiking shoes and bottled water are recommended. Park Ranger Stephen Wood will lead the hike. Carpooling will be available from our normal parking lot on Marine Drive between 2nd and 3rd Streets in Astoria at 9 am. Contact hike leader Larry Scott (281-723-9590, ldscott19 @sbcglobal.net) if you plan to take this hike.
The trail retraces the approximate route taken by Captain William Clark and 11 men when they explored the area on November 19, 1805. The trail meanders through a mature Sitka spruce forest with views of the Pacific Ocean and Benson Beach.
